Jewellery, Photoshop

09/2014

Once again I used jewellery in this piece but here I use existing pieces of jewellery to display my newly learnt skill in Photoshop. The IB Art course taught me how to use this program and throughout my two years I have used it not only for editing but also for creating. This multiple image piece displays my developed skills as I created an embossed effect in Photoshop placing simple objects into a dynamic and modernistic artwork.

Cultural Unity

Coloured conte

09/2014

Once again I explored a classic art form, the still life using objects from around the world; the French Earthenware, the Chinese tea pot and the Italian Chianti wine bottle. This global unity of manmade creations displays unique craftsmanship containing elements of culture and tradition.

Medical Aesthetics

Photogram from left to right: orange, grapes, lemon& cucumber, grape rachis

 07/2014

I took my theme of beauty in unexpected places to the extreme here. I am looking at beauty in a hideous place. I found some beautiful images that were displayed in a medical photography exhibition of diseases in Atlanta, America and I ask the viewer to consider the aesthetics of human diseases. This is a dark appreciation as although such diseases can produce beautiful images they represent great pain to many people around the world.

Number 1 (revisited)

Drip Acrylic& Multiplicity Photography

12/2013

I decided to revisit one of Pollock’s classic works called “Number 1” where he uses yellow, white and black. By using multiplicity photography I was able to re-enact the way Jackson Pollock paints as I saw him in the movie. I found that watching him painting was as interesting as the artwork itself. I thought that the incorporation of the multiplicity photography would add a modern edge to an established style of creating this type of painting.

Perception

Oil pastel, Watercolour, Acrylic& Photography

09/2014

My general art knowledge inspired me to create the traditional fruit bowl piece and it fits in with my theme of finding beauty in the ordinary. Creating a painting within a photograph is an extension of my Jackson Pollock inspired piece “Number 1 (revisited)”. I find the incorporation of different methods into one art work fascinating and this method was self directed as I have not found it elsewhere. The fruit and the bowl are painted and drawn using a variety of medium. The apples and bowl are in oil pastel, the bananas and grapes are in watercolour and the pears are in acrylic.

Encapsulated Beauty

Wire, paper, satin ribbon

09/2014

Here I express the role of media in communicating beauty and influencing people in a global concept of beauty. I want to illustrate the role of media in promoting the luxury brands.  To produce and portray the idea behind this piece I used Chanel advertisements cut from a magazine to shape the pearls, as a metaphor for advertising shaping our views of beauty. The off -white satin ribbon wrapped around these spherical forms recreate the pearls typically used by Chanel and the use of the numerous chain wire rings represent the numerous pearls in Chanel designs. We see that it is possible to recreate beautiful objects that have the image of luxury and it is advertising that creates the desire to possess these objects.

Insight

Pencil

12/2013

This pencil drawing was an art class task following steps given on a website. In completing this task I developed a greater understanding of pencil work.  Details such as the reflection of the eyelashes in the eye and the wet areas were elements I had to pay particular attention to. The eye connects with my theme as it is the eye that perceives light and beauty.

Global Matters

Watercolour

09/2014

The title suggests perhaps that the object itself is a globe made of matter. However, there is also an environmental influence in the title. This relates to the Global Matter of sustainability and the environment and the improvements made in our daily lives. This type of globe is no longer used as its filaments produce much more heat than light which results in a waste of electricity.

Titled Apple

Acrylic

04/2014

This acrylic painting of a single apple revisits a classic. Apples have often been used as the subject of skill based art pieces. Here I worked with acrylic in detail on a small scale investigating closely all elements of the apple:  the colours, areas of shadow and the reflection.
